Part-time Work Permit for Foreign Students

If a foreign student wants to work part-time in Korea, the student should receive permission for such extracurricular activity from the immigration service.

Eligibility

D-2 Study Abroad visa holder who is confirmed by a person-in-charge of an international student program at the school the student is attending

Time Limit

Undergraduate Course : up to 20 hours per week
(* Exceptions can be applied to students who attend a government-accredited university; maximum of 25 hours per week for working can be approved)
Graduate Course : up to 30 hours per week
Time limit does not apply to holidays (including Saturday) during the semester and the vacation time (holidays and the vacation period will be excluded in calculation of the time limit)

Activities Allowed

- Translation/interpretation, Assistant clerk at restaurants, Office assistant, etc.
- Activities at English villages or English camps as a sales clerk, a waiter/waitress or assistant staff (The rules apply mutatis mutandis to Chinese, Japanese and other foreign language camps)
- Tour guide assistant, sales assistant in a duty-free shop, etc.

Required Documents

- Application form, Passport, ForeignerĄ¯s ID card
- Recommendation for part-time work of foreign student
- Photocopy of Business Registration Certificate of workplace

Change of Workplace

Changing workplace (under a different employer) should be registered within 15 days of the date of change.

Limit in Extension for Period of Part-time Work

- If the latest semester's attendance rate of the student is 70% or lower or GPA is C(2.0) or lower, the student will be regarded to have difficulty maintaining job and study at the same time
- If the student fail to register detailed information of part-time job conditions (place, working hours, etc.) or haven't reported after changing workplace, extension of period of part-time work will not be approved.
